Body-worn cameras (BWCs) are increasingly seen as a potent tool for enhancing accountability and transparency in the field of law enforcement. These professional-grade devices, attached to police officers' uniforms, record both audio and video footage of police-public encounters, providing a reliable record of events to augment officer reports.

While their utility as a tool of accountability is widely recognized, the system is not yet impervious to scrutiny and criticism. The use (or misuse) of BWCs often falls under the public microscope given the vital role they play in policing environments. But the question remains: Does the BWC system perpetually magnify racial disparities? Let's delve deeper.

The Intersection of Race and BWCs

Policing〞and by extension the use of police body cameras〞is by no means colorblind. Profound and persistent racial disparities exist in the criminal justice system as a whole, from disproportionate rates of stops, arrests, and use of force against people of color to discrepancies in sentencing and incarceration.
