However, considering the potential for misuse, violation of privacy, and inadequacy in promoting systemic change, we must ask ourselves: Are police body cameras truly the panacea we hope for?

Invasion of Privacy

In this light, let's invest the same energy advocating for body cameras into fighting for systemic change. Incremental steps are essential, but let's ensure they're steps in the right direction.

Let's more carefully assess our options, ask questions, and challenge supposed 'solutions' before accepting them. And let's remember that the aim should be more than preventing individual incidents of police misconduct - it is about fundamentally altering the systems and structures that allow such misconduct to occur in the first place.

Every technological advancement - every solution - should come under the lens, no matter how promising it may seem. As it stands, the risks and issues associated with police-worn body cameras suggest that maybe they're not the solution we should be focusing on in the broader fight for police reform.
