Perhaps it is time for external auditing bodies to oversee footage collection and storage to promote accountability.

Suddenly the video cuts off. The previously rhythmic breathing terminated abruptly, the flickering images descending into darkness. But something intrigues〞concerns〞me. Why did the camera abruptly stop recording?

Later, the details of an ugly encounter come to light. The officer reports a 'violent altercation,' but eyewitness accounts tell a different story of unprovoked police brutality, where the individual was poised, calm, cooperating fully, and displayed no threat.

The evidence that could punctuate these contrasting tales is absent. The camera had mysteriously 'malfunctioned.' This worrying narrative of law enforcement individuals disabling their body cameras before engaging in questionable acts not only undermines public trust but also threatens the tenet of accountability inherent to their role.

Such stories put a glaring spotlight on the sometimes dire consequences of officers switching off body cameras. Whether it is for an innocent reason such as respecting citizen's privacy or something more insidious, such actions inevitably seed doubt among the public.

This practice necessitates a thorough reconsideration of both the current use of body cameras and the regulations governing their usage. The time is ripe for policy change. Justice demands it.
