Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Nevada, South Carolina, and Texas are a few states that have legislated mandates for using body cameras in specific situations. In a few states like Arizona, Illinois, and Maryland, only certain municipalities require their use, and even in those municipalities, the policies dictating their use are not consistent.

One noteworthy example is South Carolina, that in 2015, became the first state to require all its police departments to use body cameras - a sweeping measure taken after the fatal shooting of Walter Scott by a North Charleston officer.
