However, one of the biggest misconceptions lies in this assumed objectivity. A camera does not see as the human eye does, nor does it perceive in the way that humans do. Also, they don't record what happened before they're switched on, requiring us to rely on subjective narratives for the full story.

Furthermore, even when footage is available, interpreting it can be a complex process. Contrary to popular belief, video evidence from body cameras is not always clear-cut. Interpretations of the footage can vary significantly between viewers based on social, cultural, and personal biases. This raises questions about who interprets the videos and under what circumstances, making the complete reliance on these recordings an overreaction.

The overreaction to body cameras becomes clearer when examining the financial implications. Deploying these devices isn't just a matter of equipping officers with cameras; it involves costs for data storage, video management, officer training, and legal reviews. Some police departments have had to increase their budget by millions of dollars to accommodate these requirements - an overreaction on a fiscal level.
