But despite their increasing popularity and hopeful transparency, there is a question lurking in the shadows: Do body cameras decrease the safety of police officers?

Arguably, the discussion about the impact of BWCs on law enforcement personnel's safety usually focuses on civilian officers, serving as a protective measure to verify their actions. However, what goes underneath the radar is the potentially unintended consequence these tiny devices might have on the officers themselves.

How the Camera Lens Could be a Risk

The safety concern can be attributed to several factors. One is the possible hesitation in the officer's decision-making process, fearing the scrutiny that footage could bring post-incident.
